Sensodyne products include toothpaste, mouthwashes, and toothbrushes. We continue to bring innovation to the range, helping to meet the needs of consumers who suffer from sensitive teeth with products based on cutting-edge science.

What does it do?

There are two common ways for dentine to become exposed: gum recession, usually from gum disease or brushing too hard; and enamel wear, when the tooth is exposed to acidic diets or over-brushing. Food and drink that's cold, hot, sweet or sour, can trigger the nerve inside the tooth, causing a short, sharp shock of pain. With twice daily brushing, Sensodyne helps to prevent sensitivity coming back.

How does it work?

Sensodyne works by either relieving and soothing the nerve, or sealing off exposed dentine.

The science behind Sensodyne

  1. Tooth sensitivity is caused by common problems such as receding gums and enamel loss - the protective coating on teeth. As enamel wears away over time, the tubes which run from the enamel to the root nerve are left exposed and vulnerable to hot, cold, sweet or sour stimuli. The result is a short, sharp pain.
  2. Our NovaMin technology, which is the active ingredient in Sensodyne Repair and Protect, blocks exposed tubules quickly by forming a calcium phosphate layer, similar in structure to the minerals in teeth. This layer covers over the tiny holes in teeth and reduces the pain of sensitive teeth.
  3. This is just one of the innovations that our Sensodyne range is built on.
